Johnson County Community College will be hosting a Free College Day on Saturday, April 18th. There are several courses being offered covering College Success and Jobs and Careers.  Classes are free, but registration is required www.jccc.edu/freecollegeday

 

Pittsburg State is hosting a Spring Reception for students interested in learning more about the university and all it has to offer.  The event will be held from 6-7pm, Thursday April 16 at Tomahawk Ridge Community Center in Overland Park.  Register online at www.pittstate.edu/admission  Click on Admission Spring Receptions 2015.

 

Juniors: Wichita State is hosting 2 Junior Days, Friday April 10 or Monday April 20, 9a-2p.  Be a shocker for a day with chance to attend mock classes, meet current students and faculty, and hear about all the opportunities at Wichita State.  Admission is $15 which include lunch and a Shocker t-shirt.  Register online at wichita.edu/EventRSVP.  Don’t delay, space is limited!

 

Fort Hays State Department of Nursing presents The Summer Nightingale Experience, a 2-day event that focuses on careers in nursing.  This event will be held on June 18-19, 2015.   Sophomores and Juniors are encouraged to apply, but is open to any grade level.  Students will learn about a career in nursing, visit the Department of Nursing at Fort Hays, stay at the residence hall overnight and observe clinical units at Hays Med.  Applications may be downloaded from http://www.fhsu.edu/nursing Click on Nightingale Experience.  Applications due April 14

Any interested junior or senior may get a pass from Student Services and attend with teacher approval. All college visits will be held in the Student Services Conference Room unless otherwise noted.

 

SPORTS

 

If you are still interested in trying out for cheerleading next year now that you can try out for fall or winter or the whole year, stop by the office to grab an information packet.

The boys’ basketball banquet has been postponed due to the State Basketball Tournament.  The rescheduled date is April 8th @ 6:30pm.

 

The Dodgeball Tournament is this Thursday, April 9th, in the Field house. The tournament starts at 6:30 and should be over by 9:30. If you are competing please be here by 6:00. If you would like to attend the event to watch and cheer on the participants, please bring $1.00 for admission.

 

What a swift and exciting afternoon of swimming!  Our Lady Indians swam very well, and we ended up defeating Olathe North in our dual meet with a score of 84-79.  Congrats ladies!  The Top 5 individuals and Top 3 relays in each event scored points for our team, but everyone swam exceptionally well this afternoon!  Our next home meet is next Tuesday 4/14 against SM East and SM West, so parents, please sign up to volunteer if you have not done so yet.

MISC

 

Attention North! Anyone interested in becoming a part of our award winning choir department should come to the choir room and sign up to audition. The audition is no stress, no pressure, no other students will be in the room. Singing is just stretched out talking. You know you want to do it!

Peer Mentoring Class: If you are interested in making a positive impact on your fellow students at North., apply to be a part of the Peer Mentoring Class for the 2015-2016 school year. Applicants must exhibit patience and a willingness to work with students with special needs.  Applications can be picked up by room 9. Applications are due April 10th. If you have any questions, please see Ms. Nelson, Ms. Whiteman, or Ms. Barreca in room 9 and 11.

Masquerade! Juniors and Seniors mark your calendars! Prom will be held at Union Station from 8 – 11 on April 11th. Hope to see you all there!

 

Parking for the prom has always been in the West Yards Garage around the lower West side and costs approximately $5.00-$10.00. Please note there will be no public access outside the front of the Union Station building, Students will not be able to gather outside the front side of the building and they will not be able to be dropped off either.

FYI: American Ninja is scheduled to perform at Union Station from April 11- April 20th so the front of the building will be closed as will Pershing Road from Main St. to Kessler, basically the entire length of the Station on Pershing will be closed.

 

Prom ticket sales are next week during lunch and before or after school in room 116. The theme is Masquerade. Please remember school policy prohibits you from wearing a mask so if you plan to have a mask as part of your attire, it must be on a stick.

 

CLUBS

 

Robotics will have their Honors and Awards on Thursday – April 9th after school in Room 181.  The activity will start with ice cream sundaes and brownies.  The Coaches will be passing out certificates, letters, lettering bars, and Recycle Rush pins for the Regional Robotics Team Members.

Need to organize for Robotics McDonald’s Night on Wednesday – April 15th and sign-ups to work the Research & Development Forum – April 25 & 26.
