Hall of Fame inductees announced

 

Shawnee Mission North’s Hall of Fame will grow by three exceptional inductees. On Feb. 14, 2014, at halftime of the boys’ basketball game, Dr. Mark Balderston, Bob Stauffer and John Parker will be introduced as the newest members.

Dr. Mark Balderston – Class of 1972
*    Dr. Mark Balderston, Class of 1972, has been a team doctor at SMN for over 30 years.  He has also helped raise thousands of dollars by giving sports physicals as fund raisers for the school.
*    Mark played varsity basketball, ran track and was a defensive back, wide receiver on the 1971 State Championship football team. He was also a member of the 1971 & 1972 Sunflower League Champion Medley Relay team

John Parker – Class of 1953
*    Played quarterback on the top ranked football team for two years and starting guard on the basketball team for two years.
*    Member of the 1952 State Champion Basketball team
*    State Champion in the javelin in 1953.
*    Went on to play basketball at KU and co-captained the 1957 team that lost to North Carolina in the National Championship game.

Bob Stauffer – Football & Track 1966 – 1997
*    Assistant Football (1966 – 1978) 4-State Championship teams
*    Head Football (1979-1984) Ranked 3rd in Metro area 7-1 record – 1984
*    Assistant Track coach (1969 – 1997)
Boys = 5  State Champs in High Jump, 2- State Champs in Long Jump.
Girls = 1 State Champ in High jump, 1 State Champ in Long jump.
