The smell of butter wafted through English teacher, Bradley Rose’s, classroom door as popcorn was passed around to teachers. Teacher Appreciation Week, May 4 to 9, started on Monday with a special treat from the administrators to teachers.
Associate Principal Laura Brogdon helped organize the event by surprising teachers with popcorn.
“Every day they are doing wonderful things here at the school, and for all the students and each other,” Brogdon said. “So it’s fun to be able to celebrate them in one specific week.”
On Tuesday, Community Pride Committee head for Student Council, junior Lyra Johnson, organized an ice cream social with the teachers receiving ice cream and toppings of their choice from Culver’s.
“Teachers and staff do so much for our school,” Johnson said, “so it’s important they know how much we appreciate and value them.”
On Wednesday, the administrators served Tiki Taco for lunch with options of burritos, bowls, and tacos. It was also National School Nurses Day, and as a surprise, the principals decorated Nurse Mary Alice Kelly’s room and surprised her with chocolates and flowers.
“I tell everyone that I am the luckiest school nurse in the world,” Kelly said. “I get to come to work, a job that I love, every day.”
To start the morning on Thursday, PTSA helped put together a breakfast. On the last day, Student Council brought a snack cart around to the teachers. The cart contained treats such as chips, candy and drinks.
Throughout the week, a group of teachers called the Social Stampeed set up a secret spirit week for the teachers. The themes were: bring anything but a cup, college spirit, clothes mullet, a mixture of business on top and party on bottom, dress for the wrong occasion, and pinkout for North Relays on Friday.
North staff like to have a secret spirit week in May in order to deviate from the routine and make us laugh,” Science teacher, Whitney Richards said.
