As the stands quieted on May 4 during North Relays, the top 20 Spring Court ladies and gentlemen walked out on the track and stood in a semicircle in front of the student section. Families sat, cameras ready, awaiting the announcement of who the 2012 Spring Court Royalty would be. A voice rang out from the speakers, introducing each of the candidates. Once everyone was in place, the first name was called.

The Spring King and Queen were Michael Mahr and Emily White, with first attendants Michael Visker and Aubrey Remy, and second attendants Jake Dugan and Kathryn Zoschke.

“I’m so surprised,” White said after the crowning. “I was not expecting this at all.”

Following the crowning, the candidates walked off of the field, and their families began taking pictures.

“It was an honor to be selected by my peers to be the Spring King,” Mahr said. “But at the same time, I think any one of the guys in top 20 could have won it. Each of them were deserving and just all-around great guys.”
