Each year, teachers in the Johnson County area nominate students for Shooting Stars scholarships in one of nine categories. These categories pertain to music, performing arts, visual arts, and literary arts. With over 100 nominees coming from 23 different schools, four scholarship winners came from SM North. These students include senior Cody Rochester, second place in Winds and Percussion, senior Cedwan Hooks, second place in Technical Theatre, senior Dash Reid, second place in Literature, and senior Krista King, second place in Voice Classical.
“I was surprised to have won because all of the other musicians were so talented,” Rochester said. “They were great people who got along really well with one another and it was just a great experience overall.”
Five other North seniors were entered as finalists in the competition: Kathryn Zoschke in Theatre Performance, Stephanie Doleshal in Photography, Eva Roebuck in Strings, Mylan Chelesnik in 3D Visual Arts, and Molly Wilson in 2D Visual Arts.
