STUDENT SERVICES
Preview KU event: We’re bringing KU to Kansas City on Wednesday, September 18 at the Doubletree Hotel in Overland Park from 6:30-8:00PM. Students will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from all of our schools as well as other departments such as student housing, financial aid and scholarships, the University Honors Program. They’ll also be able to discover the myriad of involvement and experiential learning opportunities available at KU such as study abroad, undergraduate research, and Greek Life among other things. This is a free event and we simply request that students RSVP in advance at admissions.ku.edu/previewku or by calling (785) 864-3911.

There will be a PTSA meeting on Tuesday, September 17th at 7:00 p.m. in the North library We will begin with a meet & greet and refreshments at 6:40 and start the meeting promptly at 7:00.

PSAT Registration is now open for 9th, 10th, 11th grade students. The cost is $17 – checks to SMN or cash. The test will be given on Oct. 16th. Deadline for registering is September 27th. Bring registration fee to Student Service and receive the PSAT Study Guide. Questions to Mrs. Matson-Ritter.

Any interested junior or senior may get a pass from Student Services and attend with teacher approval. All college visits will be held in the Student Services Conference Room unless otherwise noted.
SPORTS:

Any student wanting to start conditioning for Winter Sports, please report to the weight room on Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s. Conditioning will be from 3pm to 4:15pm.

CLUBS:

The robotics team will meet Wednesday evening 2:50-4:00 PM in room 183. Emphasis will be on planning for the Homecoming float, skills from divisions, and scheduling of students for upcoming activities. Mr. Ritter and MS Gibbens.

A meeting of the Shawnee Mission North Combo Club will take place in room 201 after school on Tuesday, September 17th, in preparation for the homecoming parade. Attendance is encouraged.

Attention freshmen STUCO: There will be a meeting on today after school, September 16 in the choir room, (room 177) to make plans for Homecoming. Please come with your ideas!

Help support your North Robotics Team by joining us at Mission McDonald’s, Tuesday September 24th, any time between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.! Dine-in or drive-through. Robot demonstrations will be held throughout the event!! A portion of all proceeds will benefit the SMN Robotics Team.

Any and all students who are interested in Art are invited to be a part of National Art Honors Society. Our first meeting is next Wednesday the 18th. Look for flyers posted around the school for more information and how to sign up for text alerts.

AMIGOS de las Américas: Attention Spanish students! Have you ever thought about volunteering your summer in a Spanish-speaking country? Then come to the AMIGOS presentation during Seminar next week. Raquel Rodriguez, a North graduate, will talk about this international non-profit volunteer organization and her experiences serving in Spanish-speaking countries. Come to the Library on Thursday, September 19th at 1:25 next Seminar. See your Spanish teacher for a pass and more information. Hope to see you there!

Senior Graduation Committee members please get your completed FT form and information forms to Ms. Gonzales or Ms. Cole ASAP.

Seniors, the first deadline for an ad in North’s yearbook is Wednesday, September 18th. If you need information about senior ads, please refer to Becky Tate’s web backpack or stop by room 184.

Seniors, in order to be pictured in the school yearbook, you must have a photo taken by DeCloud Studios. The last day for photos taken at the studio is September 21. You can make an appointment at DeCloud by calling 913-956-7200. A LAST chance day for students who can not make it to the photo studio will be at SM North on Sept. 20. Students may sign up in the office by Sept. 10 to have a photo taken at North instead of the Studio. For more information please go to yearbook adviser Becky Tate’s web backpack.

City of Overland Park Teen Council
The Overland Park Teen Council is a new program that allows high school students to get an inside look at local government. Over the course of the school year, students will learn about different city departments, get a chance to attend various board/commission meetings, and plan a community service event. See the fliers posted throughout the building for more details. The deadline for applying is September 16th.
