STUDENT SERVICES
Preview KU event: We’re bringing KU to Kansas City on Wednesday, September 18 at the Doubletree Hotel in Overland Park from 6:30-8:00PM. Students will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from all of our schools as well as other departments such as student housing, financial aid and scholarships, the University Honors Program. They’ll also be able to discover the myriad of involvement and experiential learning opportunities available at KU such as study abroad, undergraduate research, and Greek Life among other things. This is a free event and we simply request that students RSVP in advance at admissions.ku.edu/previewku or by calling (785) 864-3911.

PSAT Registration is now open for 9th, 10th, 11th grade students. The cost is $17 – checks to SMN or cash. The test will be given on Oct. 17th. Deadline for registering is September 27th. Bring registration fee to Student Service and receive the PSAT Study Guide. Questions to Mrs. Matson-Ritter.

The Hispanic Heritage Annual Program is right around the corner! We are looking for performers, ambassadors and volunteers that will like to participate in this years’ program, please report to the Conference room in student services for our first informational meeting. We will meet his Thursday, Sept 12th in the morning from 7:00- 7:20 and in the afternoon after school 2:50-3:10. If you need additional information please talk to Mrs. Samaniego in student services or Mrs. Cox in room 261. We hope to see you on Thursday!

SPORTS:

The North gymnasts will be hosting the Shawnee Mission North Invitational this Saturday at 10:00. The meet will be held at Shawnee Mission East. Please come and support the North gymnasts and especially the seniors, Sarah Grandgenett and Tiana Alexander
Any student wanting to start conditioning for Winter Sports, please report to the weight room on Monday, Wednesday and Friday’s. Conditioning will be from 3pm to 4:15pm.

CLUBS:

National Honor Society Applications & Letters of Recommendation are due in the Front Office by this Friday at 3:20PM. Questions to Mrs. Matson-Ritter.

There will be an Robotics Meeting this Wednesday after school from 2:50-4:00 PM. Work will be assigned for all division participants as well as assignments for the Homecoming Float. Snacks will be served. Mr. Ritter and MS Gibbens
This week is National Suicide Prevention Week. Please take advantage of an excellent opportunity for our students, staff and families to increase awareness. Come and learn from experts in the field of mental health who will address the topics of depression, anxiety and suicide prevention. This panel discussion will be held in the Shawnee Mission West auditorium from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11.

“Students who participated in the PTSA cookie dough fundraiser must return their packets to the office no later than Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. as we will be submitting the order that afternoon. Winners of the Quick Trip gift cards will be announced next week. Thank you for your participation,”

Seniors, in order to be pictured in the school yearbook, you must have a photo taken by DeCloud Studios. The last day for photos taken at the studio is September 21. You can make an appointment at DeCloud by calling 913-956-7200. A LAST chance day for students who can not make it to the photo studio will be at SM North on Sept. 20. Students may sign up in the office by Sept. 10 to have a photo taken at North instead of the Studio. For more information please go to yearbook adviser Becky Tate’s web backpack.

City of Overland Park Teen Council
The Overland Park Teen Council is a new program that allows high school students to get an inside look at local government. Over the course of the school year, students will learn about different city departments, get a chance to attend various board/commission meetings, and plan a community service event. See the fliers posted throughout the building for more details. The deadline for applying is September 16th.
