Boys swim smash school records, qualify, make consideration times for state at League

Boys swim had a big night at the Sunflower League meet on Feb. 5. Two school records were broken, while multiple other swimmers either qualified or made consideration for State.

In the first event of the night, the boys 200-yard Medley relay broke the school record after its reign of 29 years. The team consisted of seniors Keighan Miller, Charlie Kaifes, Julian Rivera and sophomore Carter Jacobson. The new record is 1:43.77 (the old record was 1:44.49). They also qualified for state in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:34.91.

After multiple attempts at breaking the school record this past season, Kaifes also finally broke the school’s 100-yard backstroke record with a time of 56.47 (the old record was 58.69). Kaifes then qualified for States in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.07.

Rivera made State consideration in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.87. Junior Kaden Vernard also made State consideration time in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.41.

The boys will be back at California Trail Middle School for League finals tomorrow, Feb. 6.
