David Ewers is the new Athletic Director coming in for SM North’s  retiring Athletic Director,  George Sallas. Ewers Graduated in 2001 from Baker University while NAIA Scholar-Athlete in football. Ewers began his teaching career as a student teacher at SM South, at that time he was also an assistant football coach at SM East.

Ewers taught at Monticello Trails Middle School during 2002-2003 while also coaching football and track & field at De Soto High school. After that Mr. Ewers moved on to Olathe Northwest High School where he taught and coached for nine years. During his time at Northwest, Ewers was an AP U.S. History teacher as well as a regular U.S. history teacher. Mr. Ewers was an assistant coach for Ravens football for eight years, an assistant track & field coach for three years, and a head coach for track & field for six years.

Ewers became the Associate Principal and Activities/Athletics Director at Mill Valley High School in 2012. He has held that position for the past three years. Ewers has seen 22 league championships, 12 regional/sub-state championships, and five state championships across all competitions.

“Our goal will be to create and maintain a model interscholastic athletic program.  This will be accomplished by establishing and building on a set of core values that include: creating a first class student-athlete experience, providing value to the school and community as an athletic program, having integrity and transparency through all matters related to KSHSAA, establishing the best fan experience in the league, and of course building championship teams” Ewers said. “I am excited to build on the incredible tradition and school pride that North has.”
