North sophomore, Joe Crockett, recently won one of the top finalist positions at the Kansas Division qualifier, earning a spot in the Junior Olympic Championships in Saber Fencing which was held in Salt Lake City on Feb. 20.
Leading up to his trip to the Junior Olympics, Crockett participated in Regional fencing tournaments in Lincoln, NE winning a bronze medal, and in Iowa City, IA winning the Gold medal and improved his national rating.
Although Joe did not prevail at the National Championships this past week, Joe’s future goals include NCAA saber fencer. Crockett has been expressing his desire to attend and fence at the US Air Force Academy since he was 11. He wants to serve in the Air Force as a physician.
Crockett carries on the family tradition as his father and sisters attend North. Joe is participating in the Pre-medical Health Science Signature Program at SMN. He serves on Student Council, is a member of HOSA, and SM Cotillion. Crockett is a Cadet/Second Lieutenant in the US Civil Air Patrol, and has been chosen to lead over 250 cadets during one of the largest week-long encampments in the United States, as the 2012 Encampment Cadet Commander.
