Only Murders in the Building Season 2 Review

Back for season two, Only Murders in the Building has once again delivered. Season one left us on a cliffhanger with the trio framed for the murder of Bunny Folger. Season two picks up right where season one left off as the trio of Mable (Selena Gomez), Charles (Steve Martin), and Oliver (Martin Short) fight to solve the murder and clear their names.

Season two is an excellent extension of season one, and it really feels like one 20-episode series as opposed to two 10-episode seasons. This season keeps pumping out the twists and turns we saw last season as the group works through different suspects throughout the episodes. Although it’s still a standard who done it, the added element of the trio trying to clear their names gives another sense of risk and urgency to find the real killer, as well as helps to keep the show feeling new.

Along with the mystery, the laughs are also continued as Steve Martin and Martin Short become one of my favorite pairs of actors. The humor in the show is really nicely balanced, it doesn’t try to force jokes and the type of humor works with the mood.

One thing that is ramped up this season is the drama in the personal lives of the characters. This is especially noticeable with Charles and Oliver, as we dive deeper into both their past and current family lives. This season dives into some pretty heavy topics, but it once again does a good job of balancing the events out, keeping the show from getting too depressing while ensuring that nothing is just glossed over.

Overall, season two of Only Murders in the Building, released on June 28, 2022, is a lot of fun and more than worth the watch. The show has also been renewed for season three, but there are no set dates as of now.
