Special education students earn awards at Job Olympics event

Two SM North students earned awards at the annual special education Job Olympics event at Johnson County Community College March 28.
Junior Seth Dujakovich placed second in coin recognition and senior Marco Diaz placed second in advanced job applications in their respective grade levels.
“I think that teaching the job skills is super important especially in high school because our students will go on to have jobs in the community,” special education teacher Katie Lynch said. “This is a great way to practice it.”
This is an annual field trip for special needs students at North, and one Lynch believes will remain a tradition in the future.
“I thought it would be fun,” Lynch said. “We did great last year and it went super well this year. The only bad part was that we had to wait awhile for our bus at the end of the day.”

I am so happy to see that you did such a nice article on our SPED Job Olympics! It meant a lot to our students and to staff that worked so hard preparing them for this valuable event!
