SM North Hispanic Heritage Program to be held

Shawnee Mission North students will present the Sixth Annual Hispanic Heritage Program on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 1:20 p.m. in the auditorium.

The program celebrates students’ Hispanic customs, traditions and culture.

“In this ever-changing world it is important to acquire and accumulate more knowledge about various cultures and history and how it affects each and every one of us in the present in the future,” said the Hispanic Heritage Program press release.

The distinguished speaker will be Fernanda Garcia, a Latino student representing Johnson County Community College. SMN Counselor Elva Samaniego and World Language teacher Tanya Cox are sponsoring the event.

This program goes to show how important it is to recognize the hispanic population.

“I think the Hispanic Heritage Program is a good way to show off the skills of hispanics that you may not see in their everyday lives,” senior Neyda Venzor said, the announcer of the program. “A lot of people are unaware of the heritage and how special it really is. There’s a lot of depth that goes into it, and it’s cool to show everyone.”
