On Wednesday, Nov. 28, North and Hocker Grove Middle School are offering an event for parents, students and staff to view an award-winning documentary. This film has been named as one of “10 Education Documentaries You Don’t Want to Miss.” It highlights the unintended consequences of our pressure-cooker culture and education system. Community members and school staff from elementary, middle and high schools will be available after the film for a panel discussion.
“Race to Nowhere,” has become a national movement embraced by hundreds of thousands of parents, teachers and students. The film has been seen in more than 5,000 communities, including several Johnson County school districts. It’s been viewed in over 30 countries, reaching over one million viewers in grassroots screenings hosted by those at the center of the film’s storyline: students, teachers and parents. The intent is to begin the conversation to explore current assumptions on how to best prepare the youth of America to become healthy, bright, and contributing citizens.
This event will provide an opportunity to consider our role in supporting a healthy climate. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m in the North Auditorium with the film beginning promptly at 6:30 p.m.
