Boys swim update

The boys swim team had an eventful week last week at their home meet on Jan. 6 and Jan. 9 at the SM Northwest Invitational.

Four teams, Lawrence Free State, Lawrence, Leavenworth and SM North, all participated in the home meet. North almost placed second, being only 46 points behind Lawrence, because of multiple place finishes including senior Charlie Kaifes second place finish in the 100-yard backstroke that nearly broke the school’s record at 58.87 seconds.

Other place finishes included:

The 200-yard medley relay team of seniors Keighan Miller, Charlie Kaifes, Jon McMillin and his sophomore brother Clayton placed third with a time of 1:49.38.

Three place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle. Kaifes with a time of 23.82, placing second, Miller with a time of 24.45, placing fourth, and Jon with a time of 24.89, placing fifth.

Jon’s third place finish in the 100-yard freestyle race with a time of 56.54.

A fourth place finish for the team of juniors Harrison Boldt and Kayden Vernard and sophomore James Cameron and Clayton in the 200-yard freestyle relay with the time of 1:42.92.

Two place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke with Boldt placing fourth with a time of 1:11.94 and Clayton placing fifth with a time of 1:13.14.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Miller, Kaifes, Vernard and Jon placed third with a time of 3:53.96.

At the SM Northwest Invitational, the team placed fourth out of seven teams, right behind Lawrence again.

Place finishes included:

A fifth place finish in the 200-yard medley relay team of Miller, Kaifes, Cameron and Clayton with a time of 1:52.14.

A fourth place finish in the 50-yard freestyle for Kaifes with the time of 23.49. Kaifes also placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:00.03.

The 200-yard freestyle relay team of senior Justin Dukelow, Miller and both the McMillin brothers placed fifth with a time of 1:39.43
