After two straight road games, the Indians came back home for the homecoming game against the Lawrence Lions.
The game started off in the Lions favor with a 12-0 score early. Before halftime though, the Indians fought to make the score 12-7 with a run by senior Caleb Denman.
At halftime, the score was in Lawrence’s favor 18-7.
At the opening of the second half Lawrence senior quarterback Brad Strauss rushed for 2 touchdowns. Also senior Nick Finazzo threw an interception to Lawrence defender Kieren Severa that was returned for a touchdown.
Although things were not going the Indian’s direction, one positive note was how junior Jesse Patterson ran the ball. He ran for 21 carries, 162 yards and a touchdown.
But at the end of the game the score read 46-20.
“The scoreboard did not show how we played tonight,” said coach Dennis Grayless. “The boys played the best game they have all year. We just have to focus on getting better for the those last 3 weeks.”
With this game the Indians took over the top spot in the Sunflower League in rushing the ball. They are also fourth in total offense.
This week, North will stay at home to face the Firebirds of Lawrence Free State on Metro Sports at 7 p.m. this Thursday night.
