On Sat, March 24, students gathered in the Fieldhouse dressed in clothes that ranged from short-shorts and T-shirts to overalls. When senior Harry Schwartz blew the whistle, the first four teams to play ran for the foam balls lined in the middle of the court, signaling the start of the annual dodge ball tournament.
“It’s just something that the students look forward to,” said Student Body President, senior Jeremy Muller. “It’s a chance for students to become competitive.”
To qualify for the games, students had to form teams and pay $5 per teammate. Eight teams met the requirements to compete. The games were held in two pools with four teams in each. After every team in each pool had played each other, the top two teams from each pool played a team from the other pools. Team Nike, consisting of seniors Mitch Paden, Sean Wilkes, Dane Gray, Lloyd Young, Hunter Degraeve and Matthew Maynard placed first overall.
The competing teams raised $250 dollars altogether. StuCo donated all of the money from the games to the Special Olympics of Kansas.
