International Club helps Venezuelas resistance movement

The Shawnee Mission International Club met on Tuesday, March 4 intending to celebrate Mardi Gras, but instead decided to support the resistance in Venezuela.  Students in Venezuela began protesting their government on Feb. 12.  Widespread violence makes the country currently one of the most dangerous in the world.  Their government has censured the press so students use social media to communicate.  International Club students made signs with messages of support and posted them to Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to show their support and spread the word. Spanish teacher Erin Meyer and counselor Elva Samaniego facilitated the event.
