With the help of teacher Judith White, left, eighth-grader Reed Hosley scoops peanut butter into a mixing bowl.

It started as a fun weekly activity and is now an ongoing beneficial business.

Students in the West Wing began baking dog biscuits as a way to teach students who have communication or behavioral disorders meaningful work skills outside of a normal classroom setting.

After a couple weeks of baking, teachers needed to find something to do with all of those biscuits. After sending an email, they received an immediate response from other teachers in the building.

Now teachers who own dogs can buy treats from Barkin’ Biscuits. The proceeds would go to support funds for field trips for students in the West Wing.
