On March 23, S.M. North 1995 graduate, Blair Butler came back to her alma mater to talk to the A.R.T. students about her experiences during and after the time she spent here at north.
Butler graduated from Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Ill. She later became a stand-up comedian. She has been on many shows including Comedy Central’s Premium Blend, X-play and Attack of the Show.
“She really showed us the importance of taking open opportunities,” said senior Kathryn Zoschke. “She has a lot of experience and gave us a lot of tips on how to be successful.”
Butler also is also the writer of a comic book series “Heart” which is about the career of a up-and-coming mixed martial arts fighter. The series brought Butler an invitation to Planet Comicon to serve on panels and sign autographs.
Planet Comicon is Kansas City’s largest pop culture and comic book convention. Several students were also invited to attend the event with Butler the next day.
During her time at North, Butler performed in many plays and participated in the North senior comedy sketch for the A.R.T. troupe.
“Blair is a remarkable speaker,” said North drama teacher Maureen Davis. “She is informed, funny, succinct, has a million stories and gave the students great advice about how to break into the writing and comic arena.”
