For the first time at North, a Student Success Liaison will be offered to students and families to help those who are having a hard time with attendance, academics and athletics.

The new Student Success Liaison will be Dre Carnegie. Originally from Jamaica, he moved to Scarborough, Ontario, Canada and then to the states. He has been a Physical Education teacher and a juvenile probation officer. He is currently training to try out for the 2016 Canadian Olympic track team and will also be the assistant track coach in the spring.

“It’s about student success,” Carnegie said about his new position, “and how I can help students achieve academic goals, pretty much how they can have a positive experience here at North. I’ll talk to families, working with attendance issues, truances, and give them a good nudge in the right direction.”

Carnegie hopes to make everyone feel like they’re part of North and that they have opportunities to pursue whatever they want while they’re here.

“I want to build a community and make everyone feel like they’re part of the bigger picture here at North,” Carnegie said. “ I love people, I love making a difference in people’s lives and I’m going to be intentional every time you come see me in every interaction. I want to make a difference.”
