The Shawnee Mission North NJROTC kicked-off their competition with an impressive dual meet victory over Willard High School in Springfield, MO this past Saturday. The Indians were victorious in nine of the ten events. Finishing first in; armed regulation drill, unarmed regulation drill, armed exhibition drill, unarmed exhibition drill, color guard, push-ups, sit-ups and 100 yard shuttle relay. The only second place came in the 200 relay due to a 5-second penalty for a baton exchange violation.
The Indians dominated the push-up and sit-up portion of the competition (especially in the boys division). In the boys sit-ups event all eight Indians finished ahead of the first place Willard cadet. The eight member boys team consisted of Ben Muller 330 sit-ups, John Wessling 328, Caleb Coleman 325, Kyle Garton 317, Angelo Briones 311, Jose Murrillo 298, AJ Reek 284 and Jun Langdon 268. In the boy’s push-ups the Indians had the top six finishers; Jun Langdon 101 push-ups, Angel Gutierrez 87, Kyle Garton 78, Stephen Forbes 76, Angelo Briones 75 and Caleb Coleman 74. The lady Indians were paced by Anna Whitaker in the sit-up event as she finished first with a competition high of 338 sit-ups, Hope McAlexander finished 2nd with 297 sit-ups. In the girl push-up event the Indians had the top five finishers led by Autumn Coleman 114 push-ups, Corrine Pinkston 107, Anna Whitaker 100, Kaytlyn Tiemann 68 and Kali Dyche 65.
Next up for the JROTC will be the Kansas/Missouri Athletic Challenge held at SM North on Saturday, November 16th from 0800-1200 in the field house and stadium.”
