Class of 2020 Makes Their Introduction

Upperclassmen surrounded the doors of the field house, cheering and high fiving the freshman as they walked into North as students for the first time. Some students were excited, some were nervous, and some were just really confused as to why the upperclassmen were being so loud.

Freshman First Day is a tradition at North, where the incoming freshmen spend an entire day at the school without the rest of the student body to be able to learn more about North, talk to clubs and organizations, and meet their teachers. Upperclassmen help out, showing freshmen around and introducing them to all the different activities.

“My favorite part was seeing the freshmen actually begin to have some fun,” senior Kimberly Gordon said. “Many of them were kind of standing against the wall during bonding games, but once they got involved they were having a blast.”

Students played games, met their teachers and found out what classrooms to go to, and learned about all the different things North has to offer. A lot of freshmen were worried about what this new school had to in store for them on their first day.

“I was really scared that I would get lost and not make any friends,” freshman Julia Rivera said.

Coming to North was scary for a lot of the freshmen, but also held a lot of promise for the next four years. Clubs and sports set up tables trying to recruit the new students to join and get involved, which a lot are already planning on doing. This next year is sure to be a change, but one that students are ready to take head on.

“I’m mostly excited to make new friends and get involved with North’s art program,” freshman Brooklyn Harder said. “There’s a lot that I’ll get the chance to do now.”
