Business Students Attend DECA Day

A word from SMN teacher and DECA sponsor Cody Fothergill about the DECA Day at the K on this past Thursday:

“The SM North DECA and BPA clubs spent an outstanding day at Kauffman Stadium on September 5th learning about the business of professional sports. Four of the KC Royals executives and leaders spoke to our students about the educational and work paths they took to get to their current positions. One of the major topics discussed by the executives was the importance for college business students to obtain internships with sports organizations to begin learning the skills needed to be successful with a professional sports organization. Management, finance, marketing, and creativity were all important topics covered.

39 North students enjoyed the discussions and also were treated to a GREAT baseball game with the KC Royals, who are chasing a playoff spot in the American League. The Royals ended up winning the game on a thrilling 13th inning home run by slugger Mike Moustakas.

The students were also able to participate in a photography scavenger hunt around the beautiful Kauffman Stadium, trying to snag pictures with such things as statues, jerseys, mullets, umpires, funnel cake, and many other fun items! Needless to say, the North business students enjoyed a great day of fun and learning, all wrapped up in a victorious day at the K!!”
